Emergency Dental Care
Below, learn about what to do if you have a dental emergency before you visit our office:
Lost Permanent Teeth
If you have just lost one of your permanent teeth, pick it up by the crown, or top. Avoid touching the tooth roots. To keep the tooth moist, place it in a cup of cold milk. We may be able to reattach the tooth if it is preserved and brought to our office. However, we can also provide a replacement tooth in the form of a dental implant. Dental implants are titanium posts that replace missing teeth at the tooth root.
Toothaches and Tooth Pain
There are multiple causes of tooth sensitivity and pain. Patients with worn or eroded teeth may be more sensitive to hot and cold. Dental injuries and tooth decay may also cause patients pain. Although pain medication can alleviate the pain, it is important to visit the dentist, even if the pain fades.
Broken Dental Restorations
If you have a broken dental crown, dental bridge, denture, or tooth filling, contact our office. Do not try to put the restoration back in your mouth if it has fallen out, as this can damage your teeth and gums. Bring the restoration with you, if possible, at your next appointment. We will provide you with a new restoration if we cannot easily reattach your broken restoration.
Excessive Bleeding
It is normal for patients to experience bleeding following a tooth extraction. However, if bleeding at the extraction site persists for multiple days, please contact our office. Continue to use gauze to help stave off the bleeding. We will find the cause and provide prompt treatment in-office.
Object Stuck Between Teeth
The best thing to do if you have an object stuck between your teeth is to floss gently. Do not use any other method to try to remove a stuck object. Contact our office and we can remove the object without damaging your teeth.
